Emma isn't all that interested in getting her photo taken here. Nope.

During her awake periods, Emma is AWAKE. And so much fun to hang out with.

August 22, 2009

This was taken moments after we finished giving Emma a bath. The look she is giving us is quite menacing.

Okay, so I take a lot of pictures of the two of them sleeping together. Sue me.

August 20, 2009

I wanted to post this picture because it shows that even though we've been out of the hospital since Sunday night, Emma's hands are still bruised due to the IVs that she had to have in order to receive her antibiotics. During one of the attempts to replace her IV, she was stuck at least six times. What a tough little girl she already is.

This photo captures Beth snuggling up with Emma on our couch. It was taken at 6:58 a.m., and as soon as I saw them together, I knew it was going to be a good day.

Mom staring down at Emma while Emma wonders what in the heck is going on.

August 17, 2009

Emma is looking very comfortable in her car seat. That's right, her first day home and we had to take her out. For what? A doctor's appointment, of course.

August 16, 2009

Mom is attempting to have a sweet moment. Emma doesn't know what the heck is going on.

August 15, 2009

This 15-day old will RUIN you. The Hand of Doom struck with a vengeance moments after this photo was taken.

August 14, 2009

Not an artsy photo by any stretch of the imagination, but what an awesome one.

August 13, 2009

Emma drinking milk while Mom drinks some milk, too!

August 12, 2009

Here's a great picture of Emma's hospital gown and IV set-up, which I started calling her Hand of Doom. It was so large, it reminded me of Hellboy's fist.

August 11, 2009

Once Emma was moved to the Seashore House, lighting was always an issue due to our roommates. We didn't want to turn on too many lights and disturb anyone, so we kept lighting to a minimum. Beth and I really like the shadows in this picture.

August 10, 2009

Emma has personality. Spunk. Hutzpah. Either that or she's daydreaming about her next feeding. I believe it's the former. I mean, look at that face.

August 9, 2009

Don't be fooled. Emma's not attacking Beth with kisses. Oh no. Our little girl is one hungry munchkin and is pecking Mommy's face in hopes of finding a nipple. Silly little girl.

August 8, 2009

Let it not be said that Emma isn't going to be smothered with love. Because she will. Oh so much.

August 7, 2009

One of my favorite things to do is to read to Emma. I mean, she's a captive audience--especially when she's really sleepy like she is in this picture. The oxygen was a new addition to her treatment plan, but as of this update it's already off of her and her SPO2 is looking strong.

August 6, 2009

Emma loves her bink. This one, provided by the fine people at CHOP, has been her best buddy during her stay here so far--which Beth and I find hilarious, considering that our plan was to go at least a month before giving her a pacifier.

August 5, 2009

Watching your newborn being admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit is ridiculously stressful and tiring. Here, in between feedings, Beth takes advantage of Emma sleeping by catching a nap of her own.

August 4, 2009

This picture shows Emma resting in the CHOP Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. When we first came to the hospital, we didn't expect to have to stay long. At this time of this post, Emma is scheduled to be admitted for at least 14 days for suspected meningitis. What a little trooper.

August 3, 2009

Shortly after bringing Emma home, we became concerned that she wasn't eating enough. We called our pediatrician, who eventually told us to take her to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. This is Emma in the CHOP emergency room. Note the grip she has on her bink despite all the activity going on around her. She was already proving to be a fighter.

August 2, 2009

Once Beth held Emma for the first time, she couldn't stop holding her. Even when our little girl was passed out cold. I love the emotion on Beth's face in this picture. You can already see how much she's in love with Emma.

August 1, 2009

Beth delivered Emma at 11:17 p.m. on July 31, but it wasn't until August 1 that she was able to hold Emma for the very first time. I love this picture.

July 31, 2009

This is Emma's first ever picture, taken moments after she was delivered by Mom. As soon as we both saw her, we were in love.
